Haryana chief minister says state ready with measures to tackle possible floods

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has assured that the state government is fully prepared to handle any flood-related situation. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in many parts of Haryana from August 31 to September 2, with heavy rain possible at isolated places until September 3. Increasing water levels in rivers due to rainfall in nearby hills have prompted the government to stay alert.

Saini emphasized that the administration is ready to act immediately to ensure that no citizen suffers losses during this period. He had earlier instructed all deputy commissioners to inspect areas along rivers in their districts and prepare detailed action plans for villages, settlements, and colonies near riverbanks. Adequate arrangements at the district level are being made to prevent accidents and respond quickly to emergencies.

The Chief Minister appealed to the public to remain cautious during the rainy season and avoid visiting hilly areas or risky zones near rivers. He reassured citizens that all necessary steps are being taken to protect lives and property.

The state government has also been monitoring the water levels of major rivers and streams, ensuring that early warnings and evacuation plans are in place for vulnerable communities. Disaster response teams, including emergency services and local authorities, are on standby to provide relief and assistance to affected people.

Saini highlighted that public cooperation is essential during this period. Residents are advised to follow government advisories strictly, stay indoors whenever possible, and report any urgent incidents to local authorities. Relief camps and emergency shelters have been prepared to accommodate those in need, and essential supplies like food, drinking water, and medical aid are being arranged.

Farmers’ support and public initiatives

The Chief Minister also announced that the e-Kshatipurti portal will remain open until September 10 to allow farmers affected by floods, standing water, and heavy rainfall to register claims for crop damage. The portal covers all 1,402 villages across 12 districts. So far, 38,286 farmers have registered claims for damage to 2,42,945 acres of land. District revenue officials will verify these claims, and compensation will be provided according to government norms. Farmers are encouraged to register their claims as early as possible to receive benefits from the extended deadline.

Saini also spoke about the importance of youth participation in sports and healthy living. On the sidelines of a Cyclothon event at Dronacharya Sports Stadium in Kurukshetra, he encouraged young people to make sports part of their daily routine and stay away from drugs. He noted that drugs not only harm individuals but also negatively impact families and society. The Chief Minister emphasized the theme of this year’s National Sports Day, “One Hour on the Playground,” as a way to inspire active lifestyles among youth.

During the three-day National Sports Day celebrations from August 29 to 31, the Haryana government organized various sports activities across the state to honor the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The state-level closing ceremony was presided over by Saini in Kurukshetra, while ministers and MLAs attended district-level events to motivate athletes and participants. Events included cyclothons, school competitions, and community sports programs aimed at promoting fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy living.

Saini also announced that starting September 17, which marks Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, a “Sewa Pakhwada” campaign will begin. During this period, services will be provided to the poor, needy, and differently-abled, with participation from welfare societies, traders, and other organizations. The campaign will continue until October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, highlighting public service and community welfare.

The Chief Minister took a moment to address political issues, criticizing the opposition for targeting Prime Minister Modi’s mother during their recent campaign in Bihar. Saini emphasized that the opposition should focus on development works and achievements during their tenure instead of blaming EVMs. He also pointed out that the public has recognized the development efforts of the Modi government, which he said has brought global respect and progress to India over the last 11 years.

In summary, the Haryana government is taking proactive measures to manage flood situations, support affected farmers, and ensure the safety of citizens. At the same time, initiatives like National Sports Day and Sewa Pakhwada aim to promote fitness, public welfare, and community participation. The Chief Minister’s messages to the public highlight caution during rains, cooperation with authorities, and active engagement in health, sports, and social service programs.
